BIOS update

Updating (flashing) the BIOS of any device is a responsible procedure. I do not write difficult, because there is nothing complicated there. However, any error made while updating the firmware of the device will lead to the failure of the device. Therefore, it is very important to understand what is being done and why.

Component manufacturers do not officially recommend updating the device BIOS without unnecessary need. A significant reason for updating the BIOS is, as a rule, hardware malfunctions, which this update can (and should) fix. The manufacturer’s website usually describes the changes that each firmware version makes. If you need the changes, and not the fact of the update, then go!

BIOS Developer Comment

If the BIOS update (firmware) procedure is necessary, you should update the firmware using the tools and using the manual provided by the manufacturer, if any.

Collection of information for updating (firmware) BIOS
First you need to find out exactly the model of the motherboard, its revision number and BIOS version. This can partially be done by visual inspection of the board itself and using software. Link to software and photo examples below:

Marking motherboard

The board model is usually closer to the center.

The program is designed to obtain detailed information about the PC motherboard, its processor, BIOS and video card. Information can be saved in a convenient format and provided if necessary, for example, on the technical support forum.
Please note that the firmware of different revisions of the same board model may vary. Therefore, if the revision of the board can be selected on the manufacturer’s website, specify which revision you have (see photo below).

Preparing files for updating (firmware) BIOS
So, on the manufacturer’s website, you need to find and download the correct firmware version taking into account the revision number of the motherboard.

BIOS download process

On the manufacturer’s website, through the search form, we are looking for the right motherboard. At
There can be several revisions of the board (rev.2, etc.), select the one you need.
On the board page we find the download, download, etc. section. Links to the update download pages of most manufacturers are in this article.
In the files section we are looking for the BIOS subsection (usually there is one).
Download the desired version.
To update the BIOS, the firmware procedure must be run in the DOS environment. To do this, you must place the firmware files on a specially prepared bootable media. The most common option is a CD. See how to prepare it in the video below. The following programs are used in the video:

A program for burning discs with wide capabilities and flexible settings. He writes discs, works with ISO images as well. You can burn a boot disk.

You can update the BIOS using a USB flash drive as bootable media. You can make a bootable USB flash drive with DOS using the following programs:

A program for creating bootable USB media with one bootable operating system. In this case, you will need FreeDOS as the boot system.
YUMIYUMI Go to the website
A program for creating multi-bootable USB media with one or more operating systems to boot. You can make a flash drive with several operating systems for different tasks. As with Unebootin, FreeDOS is required as part of this article.
To exclude possible failures when booting from USB, you need to disconnect all USB drives, except the one from which it is supposed to boot and DO NOT CONNECT the bootable USB drive to the USB 3.0 connectors (blue). USB 2.0 only
